Historically, design practices have focused on process, methods, and craft. But this limits design’s potential—design leaders can provide more value to their organizations by implementing robust DesignOps. In Design Operations Essentials, Dave Malouf will introduce participants to the three lenses of DesignOps, and how each one helps an organization increase the value it gets from its design practice. Participants will learn frameworks from strategic thinking and service design so they can start developing their own operational models for their design practices.

If you are in the early stages of implementing design operations practice in your organizations, this workshop will teach you both a broad and flexible definition of design operations as well as tangible activities for how to start.

About the speaker
Dave Malouf is a Consultant, Coach, and Educator. With 25 years of experience in designing and and leading design teams, Dave has tuned his efforts squarely on making designers and design teams more valuable through both education and consulting. In this regard, Dave has focused his attention on Design Operations (#designOps), having co-authored the first book on the topic, and co-founded the first conference.

Description: This workshop will look at the people, principles and practices of Design Operations (#DesignOps) to design services. It will explore #ServiceDesign using #DesignOps approaches within teams to support flow and collaboration, as well creating toolchains used to deliver outcomes at digital transformation as speed and scale. I will draw upon examples from across a range of sectors and focus on project work undertaken in the past few years working with large organisations.

It uses design operations to systemise ways of working to deliver outcomes that improve the customer experience and deliver value to the business based on your unique circumstances.

About the speaker

Peter Fossick is a seasoned director of design strategy, a creative director, an academic and a speaker specialising in service design, UX design and innovation using a range of approaches including service design, DesignOps and agile principles to deliver digital transformation and customer-centric experiences within the service-product continuum. He has worked all over the world helping top tier corporations and organisations to transform their services using #DesignOps 

Peter wears many different hats; he is the founder of the IXSD Academy and the Senior Director of Service Design at Factotum Design. He is the former Service Design Program Director at IBM, a former Director of Strategic Design at Boston Consulting Group-Digital Ventures and currently he is working with Publicis Sapient.

Peter set-up the first BFA and MFA in Service Design at SCAD and was the course leader of the MDes in Design, Innovation and Management at MDX. He has been a full time lecturer at Glasgow School of Art, SCAD, Central Saint Martins (UAL), Middlesex University and the Hong Kong Design Institute. Recently he co-founded the IXSD Academy.
